Fire shutters are used everywhere: shopping malls, office towers, underground garages. Here is the proper installation process for steel composite fire shutters and inorganic fabric double-track double-curtain special-grade fire shutters.
Step 1: Install the Guide Rails
Mark the rail positions on both sides of the opening using a plumb line. Mark cross lines for the rail connector fixing bolts. Rails should extend at least 75cm above the ceiling. Use a hammer drill to make holes for expansion bolts. Connector spacing should not exceed 600mm, with end connectors 100mm from the rail opening. Spot weld each connector to the rail, at least 5 weld points per connector.
Step 2: Install the Barrel Shaft
Based on the shaft center height in the shop drawing, mark the center of the drive-side support plate on the column or wall. Using a water level, find the corresponding driven-side support plate center. Drill holes perpendicular to the column face. If a hole hits rebar and can't be drilled, shift slightly — but not so much it affects strength.
Step 3: Install Support Plates
Mount the drive-side support plate first. The support plate face must be perpendicular to the shaft. Check the driven plate center height matches the drive plate using a water level. Deviation should be within 1/300 of the opening height. On brick walls, use through-bolts for the support plates.
Step 4: Install the Barrel Shaft
Before mounting, attach hanging plates to the shaft. Load 4–6 slats onto the hanging plates, roll them tight, and secure with wire. When hoisting, designate one person to direct. Check ladders, scaffolding, and chain hoist beforehand. Once in position, align, tighten bearing bolts, and fully weld the smooth shaft to the barrel.
Step 5: Install the Curtain Slats
Loosen a few slats from the roll. Use a water level and straightedge to check that unevenness doesn't exceed 1/300 of the opening height. Roll the shaft to thread the slats on, attaching the bottom beam last. Run the curtain through a full cycle to check for snagging.
Step 6: Install the Electrical Control Box and Lock Box
Mount the lock box and control box plumb, level, and secure. Run conduit between them. Install the electrical control board and limit switches. Connect switch wires, power wires, and signal wires following the low-voltage electrical installation code. Power up, manually lower the curtain one-third, then use buttons to run it. Adjust upper and lower limits and run the curtain several times to confirm smooth operation.
