The motor is the heart of an electric roller shutter. Once it is installed, run the checks below before you sign off. This roller shutter motor check covers the housing, the functions, and the running performance.
Electric Roller Shutter Motor: Housing and Coating
Look at the housing. It should be complete, with no missing corners, cracks, or deformation.
Check the coated surfaces. They should be smooth, with no clear bubbles, wrinkles, spots, or sags.
Keep flammable materials away from the motor parts. The control device should suit the way your operator uses it.
Basic Functions and Brake
Confirm the rated output torque matches the design, and ask the maker for the pass certificate.
Test the brake. It must be safe and reliable. Brake force should reach at least 1.5 times the rated output torque, and slide travel must stay under 20 mm.
Try the manual device. It should be flexible and reliable, placed within easy reach, and open or close the shutter without slide or bump.
Run the electric open and close. The shutter should also slide down steady under its own weight. The arm force needed to start that gravity descent should not exceed 70 N.
Check the limit devices. They should stop the shutter at the upper and lower ends on their own, with a repeat positioning error under 20 mm.
Running Performance
Count the mechanical life. Under rated torque with the weighted curtain, the motor should clear 2000 cycles (one cycle: closed to fully open to fully closed).
Measure the noise. No-load running should stay under 65 dB.
Check the power tolerance. With AC voltage from +10% to −15% of rated, the motor should run normally.
Test the safety. Insulation resistance of the electric parts should read above 20 MΩ in normal air. Live parts to the housing should withstand 1760 V at 50 Hz for 1 minute, with no breakdown or surface arc. After the climate tests in the standard, the specs should still meet the post-test limits.
