They block fire spread and cut the damage a fire causes — which is why they’ve become standard equipment in modern buildings.
What fire rated roller shutters are made of
The vertical steel fire rated roller shutter is built to national and industry standards. Steel makes up the curtain, the rails, the bottom bar, the lintel, and the housing, with a fire roller and control box. Together they meet fire-resistance and heat limits.

Features
The vertical steel shutter runs three ways: electric, manual, and auto-close. The control box carries smoke and heat sensors, works on its own, and also links to the fire control system. It handles opening, closing, and the two-stage descent on its own. During a fire it slides down and closes, isolating the fire zone.

Main functions:
- Button control for up and down, with auto-stop at the upper and lower limits.
- On a smoke signal, the door drops to the midpoint and holds, then closes after a 60-second delay. Or the smoke signal drops it to the midpoint as a smoke curtain, and a heat signal drops it the rest of the way.
- Network link to the fire control room for remote control, with door position reported back.
- A thermal release device closes the door automatically during a fire, even if the power is out.
- Pulling the manual quick-release drops the steel shutter.
- Fire ratings: 1.5h, 2.0h, 3.0h, and 4.0h.

Fire rated roller shutter doors go into public spaces that carry fire-safety requirements: large supermarkets, shopping malls, material markets, exhibition halls, factories, warehouses, and underground parking garages. Fire Rated Roller Shutter Applications
Where you put the door shapes the spec you need. A supermarket loading bay takes a different curtain than an underground garage stairwell. In each case the shutter works the same way: the alarm triggers it, the fire control system runs the descent program, and the opening is sealed long enough for people to evacuate and for crews to respond. Match the curtain material and speed to the space, and the door does its job without fuss.
Main Parameters
Door surface: the housing is cold-rolled steel plate, 2.0–2.5 mm thick.
Curtain materials:
- High-density industrial base fabric, made in France, 0.8–2.0 mm thick. Tensile strength (warp/weft): 5700 / 5100 N per 5 cm. Tear strength (warp/weft): 900 / 80 N. Operating temperature −30°C to +70°C. Flame classification NF-P92-503 M2 (France) or DIN 4102 B1 (Germany).
- Transparent PVC sheet, 1.5–2.0 mm thick.
- Control system: PLC and frequency converter.
- Manual and automatic controls: push button, pull cord, remote, magnetic loop, radar, and photo-eye interlock, so the door opens and closes the way your site needs.
Types of Fire Rated Roller Shutters
You will see a few types of fire rated roller shutters built around the curtain. The fabric curtain suits spaces that need insulation and a low reverse-side temperature. The transparent PVC curtain keeps visibility at a service opening. Steel and inorganic composite curtains trade transparency for raw durability. Our premium double-track, double-curtain inorganic fire rated roller shutter is light and insulates well. The reverse-side temperature stays low, and its fire resistance is complete. - Fire performance: holds back fire for 3.0 hours (180 min). Radiation heat on the unexposed side: 0.61 W/cm².
- Wind-pressure resistance: at 784.5 Pa, mid-curtain deflection is 45 mm.
- Motor power: 0.25–1.5 kW.
- Main power: AC380V 50Hz. Control power: DC12–24V.
- Average opening/closing speed: 2–9 m/min. Gravity descent speed: 4–9 m/min.
Control Method
The electric control system takes on/off signals from smoke and heat detectors to close the door, or it links to the fire control center. In normal use you can run the door by hand. In a fire it drops to the midpoint on its own, then continues to the bottom after a delay. During a fire you can press any key to send the door back up. The reverse height and the midpoint dwell time are both adjustable. On request we add an obstacle-stop safety sensor and a low-temperature (70°C) thermal-fuse device.

- Steel fire rated roller shutter: curtain, rails, bottom bar, lintel, and housing are steel, with a roller motor and control box, meeting fire-integrity requirements.
- Inorganic composite fire rated roller shutter: curtain of inorganic fiber, with steel clamps, rails, bottom bar, lintel, and housing, plus roller motor and control box, meeting fire-integrity requirements.
- Premium fire rated roller shutter: curtain of steel or inorganic fiber, with steel rails, bottom bar, clamps, lintel, and housing, plus roller motor and control box, meeting fire-integrity, insulation, and smoke-control requirements.
